Penampang: Barisan Nasional (BN) component Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has stood firm on the rights of Sabahans despite suggesting a motion of no-confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

"SAPP as one of the (Barisan) component parties in Sabah has delivered its viewÉwe also hold similar views (on the problems raised by SAPP)," said Upko President Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, Friday.

He said Sabah would continue to be defended in terms of its rights as long as it continues to have voices such as from SAPP and Upko.

Dompok said it is not necessary to take action against SAPP because no action had been taken against certain key leaders in Umno who had similarly and openly asked the Prime Minister to step down.

Upko, he said, is in favour of cooperating to resolve the problems. "A lot still needs to be done particularly on government policies that have been disputed by the people."

The fate of SAPP has been deferred to another date following the BN Supreme Council decision to study in detail the points raised by the party.

BN Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who chaired the meeting of the BN management committee on Wednesday, said a decision would only be made after the study had been completed and also whether it was appropriate to respond to the SAPP.

Last month, the BN issued a show-cause letter to SAPP demanding an explanation on its stand to support a motion of no-confidence against Abdullah.

In its reply dated July 30, the SAPP had also urged the BN leadership to examine the reasons why the party would support such a motion.

Among the requests made in the party's eight-point declaration and endorsed by its Supreme Council was for Sabah to have political autonomy, an increase to 20 per cent in the state's share of oil royalty and Labuan to be brought under the state jurisdiction and governed as a special region.

  3. UPKO is doing the right thing. I hope they will together form the Pan-Borneo Alliance to strengthen the power and influence of the Sabah and sarawak peoples. Together, Sabah and Sarawak can become the king-maker to determine the next Malaysian government. Then they will be in a strong position to assure that Sabah and Sarawak will get 20% oil money as well as political automony for the two states. For Sabah the problems of Labuan and illegal immigrants will then be solved with the Sabah state government controlling the solution. Also Sabah can then be in a position to look overseas for more foreign investments that will ultimately ensure the economic development that must be in place before the problems of the illegal immigrants can be solved.

  4. In the last Parliament sitting,129 MP's voted in favour on the increase of fuel.By supporting this motion of increase,26 million Malaysians today are suffering.

Dompok says,"UPKO will ensure Sabahans voices heard".My question to Dompok is,did the voices of Sabahans tell you or any UMNO/BN that we agreed to the increase of fuel?

All 129 MP's,including UPKO voted in favour to ensure continuity in enriching themselves.

The state and country is currently in turmoil, filled with ridicule and malicious environment. We are looked upon by foreign nations as a country with no laws, this is catastrophic.Unless a renewed path is shown,we are doomed.

We await 16th.Sept.2008,with much excitement.Let us wait patiently,as to which alliance and stand will BN Sabah[minus UMNO]take.

    Cheers.

"Pairin, who is huguan siou (paramount chief) said although the indigenous people in Sabah are well looked after there was still room for improvement.

"He said this is based on the initial feedback from the workshop on "Impact of Laws and Government Policies to the Indigenous Peoples in Sabah" held earlier, at which some issues affecting indigenous people in the State like on land were raised for the State Government's immediate attention"
    ===============================

I think the natives are too concerned with "protecting" thier rights and not concerned enough about building and expanding the economy so that many high paying jobs can be created. The natives want others to give them cars and houses and all kinds of good stuffs like HD TVs, etc. But it is not possible for anybody to give them these things. Anybody who promise to give them cars and houses and all kinds of good stuffs are inevitably out to cheat them as the UMNO has cheated them over the last 45 years. In then end, the timber is all gone and the KDM peoples are still as poor as before. Now the UMNO Malays are taking the oil of Sabah giving back nominally 5% of the oil money but probably not even that much. And in another 15 to 20 years the oil will be gone and the KDM natives will be even worse off then they are now.

The solution to the prosperity of the natives is through the development of the economy. And the development of the economy does not depend on the special rights of the natives. What the natives must do is to invite more Chinese entrepreneurs to immigrate into Sabah bringing with them their capital and managerial expertise so that they can develop the Sabah economy. And as the Sabah economy develops robustly, there will be many jobs created for the KDM natives. These high paying jobs will then allow the natives to work hard to earn the high pays with which to buy cars, houses, and all kinds of good stuffs that the natives want.

So the best advice the natives can get is to forget about their special rights which will make them narrow minded and try to exclude the Chinese which in the end will collapse the Sabah economy and keep the natives poor. Just look at Singapore. Singapore has nothing by way of natural resources. Yet Singapore has a total GDP that is even bigger than Malaysia's and a per capita GDP that is more than 6 times bigger than that of Malaysia. This means that it does not take abundant natural resources to make Sabah natives rich. It takes only the capital and the managerial expertise of the Chinese investors and businessmen.

The bottom line is that the Sabah natives should shift their mindset from safeguarding their special rights which UMNO is using to divide and conquer them and the Chinese. The natives must make an alliance with the Chinese to increase the Chinese immigratin so that Sabah economy can be developed and expanded for the benefit of all. Specifically, this means the KDM must form a Pan-Borneo Alliance to kick out the UMNO-BN government and form a new government with PR to institute equality and justice which will then lay the groundwork for the robust development of the Sabah economy which will continue even after oil runs dry.

  8. Even if all 100% of the oil money is given to the Sabah natives, they will not get more than a few thousand ringgits per year per native person. But if Sabah economy develops to the level of Singapore, then the average incomes of the natives will be some RM100,000 per year. So would the natives prefer to earn less than RM10,000 per year with special rights? Or would they rather earn RM100,000 per year without special rights? I think the choice is very clear.

  9. In Singapore even the Malays earn median incomes of S$2,000 to S$3,000 per month. This translates to RM5,000 to RM7,500 per month or RM60,000 to RM90,000 per year. Obviously, the Malays don't have any special rights in Singapore, yet they make much higher incomes in Singapore without ketuanan Malayu than their cousines in Malaysia with ketuanan Melayu. (The figure is income per Malay worker in Singapore. The median income per Malay worker in Malaysia is probably only RM12,000 or less per year or 5 to 8 times less than that of Singapore.)

This means the most important factor in earning high incomes is not special rights but a robust economy. Therefore, by insisting on special rights which kills the economy, the Malays and the bumis are actually constraining themselves to much lower incomes. Getting rid of the speical rights and institute full equality which in turn will promote the robust development of the Sabah economy in the end will allow the natives to earn much higher incomes.

Lastly, UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights strictly prohibits special rights of any one race or races over other race or races based on race, national origin, religions, etc.

  10. In Malaya, the special rights of the Malays just make those Malays with connections rich while making the average Malays much poorer. In the end, special rights benefit only the upper crust but not the average Malays. The same thing applies to the natives in Sabah and Sarawak. Special rights will only make those native leaders rich but not the average natives. As I said repeatedly, it is a robust economy that will make the average natives rich. Insisting on special rights will ultimately make the Chinese leave and crash the economy and make the average natives much poorer.

Sudah 45 tahun merdeka masih belum saya nampak sabah native buat business di Sabah. Kenapa ah?

Apa yang saya tahu, selalu mabuk di kedai kopi di kepayan, dongongon, kobusak dan etc ...

  14. In order to ensure Sabahans' voices heard -

Thats has been passed by for 45 yrs already . Today we are still talking about allowing time to BN Federal leaders to slowly to make it a change .

Ther( Federal ) had heard it all right .Loud and clear what Sabahans wanted , but they just could not be bother .

Right now , the suffering of Rakyat in Sabah can tackle VERY SLOWLY .

Cos we have a much important to do right now - that is how to win back the seat by-election of Pemantan Pauh ( From Anwar ) .

Come on men , Sabahans , are u all still slleeping ? aren't u all wake up yet ?

One little town by election just could not compare the whole os Sabah ???

When did the federal Leaders ever look upon Sabahans ??
All they attend first is West Malaysia , - Peninsular - Malaya . KL matters .

45 yrs they supposed to look after us , how come we leaders of Sabah still want to say over & over again " to give them time , " ???

I fail to understand actually how much time do they want ?
    Another 45 yrs ???

No way lah , by that time Sabah will be no more name Sabah - North Borneo , the government may change to South Phillipines .

By that time , all will be too late .

If it is true, then as a real Kadazan I am very disappointed.I hope that the Kadazan Chamber of Commerce Industry or the Kadazan Society of Sabah, will look into this matter seriously.Otherwise, the Kadazan's will be left far behind by the other races in Sabah.

"OK LET SAY WE GIVE UP OUR RIGHT WOULD YOU ALSO GIVE UP YOUR CHINESE SCHOOL TO BE ABOLISHED."
    ---------------------------
The Chinese schools are not based on special rights. What are you talking about? Special rights are those based on NEP and such bigotry as ketuanon Melayu which is in gross violation of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states clearly:
    ------------
    Article 2.
Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
    --------------

The Chinese schools are based on the equal rights of all races to have their own communal schools. The same right is not denied to any other races. On the other hand, the special rights demanded by the natives are in excess of the rights equal to all. For example, the Chinese have to pay 5% to 10% more to buy the same housing. This is unequal and unjust. Business licenses and permits are also granted to the natives over and above those given to the Chinese in an unequal quota system that deny the equal opportunity to the Chinese and in violation of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
    --------------
    Article 23.
    (1) Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment.
    (2) Everyone, without any discrimination, has the right to equal pay for equal work.
    (3) Everyone who works has the right to just and favourable remuneration ensuring for himself and his family an existence worthy of human dignity, and supplemented, if necessary, by other means of social protection.
    ----------------

To deny business licenses and permits is ultimately the denial of right to work and is in violation of the article 23 of the UNUDHR.

The quota system of giving more scholarship and places in the university to the natives is also in violation of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
    ----------------
    Article 26.
    (1) Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit.
    (2) Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace.
    -------------------

Article 26(1) above distinctly stated that "...higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit." Take note again that it should be based on merits and not on the special rights of the natives. Now, the natives have special rights which allow underqualified natives to have places in the universities over the more qualified Chinese. This is in violation of the article on equal access to higher education based on "merit." Furthermore, education should be for the "respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms." It didn't say education should be for the bigotry and inequality of special rights of natives.

As I said before, special rights have not stimulated the robust growth of the Malaysian economy in general and the Sabahan economy in particular. Compared to the Singaporean economy, Malaysian economy and Sabahan economy are dead in the water and kept afloat only by the huge oil incomes. Once the oil is depleted, Malaysian economy and Sabahan economy will crash like that of Indonesian and Filipino economies.

The natives should get a little smarter and realize that by trying to get a little advantage over the Chinese, they are ultimately discouraging the growth and development of the Sabahan economy which inevitably condemn the natives to poverty. The Indonesians murdered the Chinese 10 years ago. As a result the Chinese went out of Indonesia and settled in China, US, UK, Australia, etc. and have become rich in these respective places. In the meantime Indonesian economy went down the toilet and the Indonesians have to sneak into Sabah to work for Chinese employers in Sabah. I hope the Sabah natives can see the irony and learn a valuable lesson.

In the end, giving up their special rights which is in violation of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and welcome the Chinese to come into Sabah to stimulate the growth of the economy on a basis of full equality will be the only hope for the natives to have the incomes to buy cars and houses. As it has been said, the more you give away the more you will receive in return. The more equality the natives give to the Chinese, the more the Chinese will expand the economy and the more high paying jobs will be created for the natives which is the only long term way for them to be rich.
