The state government only understood the consequences of its decision to approve a 16-storey commercial complex bordering the iconic Atkinson Clock Tower after it was pointed out that it may be against the law.
The plan hit a raw nerve in the city with many questioning the need for yet another mall and shopping complex within the city limits, while many such structures approved by the government lie half empty and under-utilised.
The outcry has shaken Chief Minister Musa Aman's administration to the core and forced both him and his Cabinet ministers to issue statements assuring that they would review the development plan put forward by the SHTDA.
memang betul ada banyak shopping complex yang dibina di KK masih lagi kosong...but seperti juga 1Borneo yang sikit masa dulu adalah kosong dan lama-lama nanti penuhlah. so kena sabarlah....
ReplyDeletesebenarnya Sabah kenalah lihat apa yang berada di hadapan dan pembinaan banyak shopping complex adalah lambang kemajuan negeri Sabah walaupun sekarang ni masih lagi kosong..sebab ramai para pelancong suka membeli belah...
ReplyDeleteThere are plans to put up a 16 story commercial development (mall and hotel) right next to the Atkinson Clock Tower which will destroy part of the hill and completely ruin the environs of one of two prewar heritage buildings left in Kota Kinabalu.
ReplyDeleteAn effort is being made to collect signatures for a petition to the State government to stop this willful destruction of our heritage.
We need another mall in Kota Kinabalu like we need the plague. If you care, please visit the link below and sign the petition. Time is of essence.

Perancangan pembinaan bangunan ini mestilah mengikut undang-undang yang telah ditetapkan.
ReplyDeleteThe government should have studied the whole issue before approving its plan.
ReplyDeleteWhile the Muzium has objected to the plan...the authorities still go ahead....and claiming that all have approved and all is well...and well, the people of KK are not informed, but only found out later on...if it is not too late....to save our decade old beloved clock tower.

the project has been objected not only by several key minister in the government, the people in KK & Sabah not forgetting Sabahan outside the state also has voice their disagreement over the project...It is not to late to pull back any 'approvement' over the project...there are many places in KK where the developer & LPPB can choose to Abuild the shopping complex..
ReplyDeleteKerajaan akan mempertimbangkan hal ini sebelum memutuskan apa-apa.
ReplyDeleteThe government shouldn't disturb the natural landscape of the historical clock. I hope they will consider relocating the project somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteEnough of shopping malls! Increasing the number of shopping malls in Sabah does not equal progress. Must we forsake our heritage in the name of profit and unnecessary convenience? Hopefully the government will have second thoughts on the project. I trust the government will make the "right" decision!
ReplyDeleteharap keputusan yang akan dibuat memberi kebaikan dan adil kepada semua pihak. saya yakin pertimbangan yang wajar akan dibuat berhubung pekara ini .
ReplyDeletePreserve our heritage for our future generation. Stop destroying everything in the name of development. I understand the project objective is also to boost the tourism sector. However,we should know that majority of tourist come to Sabah for the nature and culture that Sabah has to offer them and not shopping malls.
ReplyDeleteSaya harap kerajaan akan membuat keputusan berdasarkan reaksi rakyat Sabah terhadap projek tersebut.
ReplyDeletethe historical value of the clock tower is more worth than the project proposed.
ReplyDeleteLook like KK or Sabah has no other land except that piece surround or nearby the clock Tower!
ReplyDeleteThose involved must be blinded by $$$ just like before when plan made for more medical facility next to old QE Hospital and many other matter etc etc...
What talk about of expertise and look at those many abandoned schemes or hill landslide incident by example. Some human beings are very selfish indeed.
Mereka selalu ingat pandai buat keputusan betul bila-bila biar clock tower ataupun macam mazu.
ReplyDeleteTa'apa tenguk dulu,apa macam?

ReplyDeleteI hope the final answer is NO DEVELOPMENT PLAN at all.
ReplyDeletePerbincangan masih dijalankan. Banyak konfrontasi telah berlaku. Harap segalanya berjalan dengan lancar.

ReplyDeleteBack to home town today.
What going to happen to our clock tower now. there is no news here about the progress.ya
ReplyDeleteis the construction still on going? no stop-working order being send to the developer?Seems like someone in the LPPB is fighting for the project to move on even though some minister, even the CM, has expressed their dissatisfaction towards the projects...
ReplyDeleteKita tunggulah keputusan selepas mesyuarat itu diadakan. Mungkin situasi win-win boleh dikecapai.
ReplyDeleteIf they could stopped the Ma Zu construction in Kudat, why cann't they stop this despite that
ReplyDeleteit was approved by DBKK.
Let's just hope they will stop this shopping mall project.
