SAPP maintains that Sabah should keep its natural gas for local industries
KOTA KINABALU, July 25, 2010: The State government should not have agreed to or allowed Petronas to siphon the natural gas from offshore of Sabah all the way to Bintulu, Sarawak in the first place, if it was really serious about developing the local industries, the oil and gas industry in particular, said Luyang State Assemblywoman, Melanie Chia.
For the same token, Petronas should not have even think of such a plan let alone pushing for it despite strong objection from the people of Sabah, besides Federal Cabinet's instruction (to Petronas) to give priority to Sabah if the State required the resources, as what has been noted by Plantation Industries and Commodity Minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok in his statement two months ago.
Dompok also noted that there was a guarantee that no gas will be transported to Sarawak through the Kimanis-Bintulu pipeline if there is a need for gas in Sabah.
Melanie who is also the Women Chief for Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) contended this while responding to a statement by State Industrial Development Minister, Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah on Friday, that Petronas will only agree to let Sabah keep a portion of the gas channeled to the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal if it is able to substantially build up its infrastructure and manpower to support the oil and gas industry in Sabah.
While gas is siphoning out to bintulu or west malaysia, sabah gets the dirty coal.
ReplyDeletethat is how the malayans treat us sabahans, and that is true.
To them "we eat rice, you eat tapiocas" that is to say "if we eat grass, you eat shit"
You have voted for UMNO BN over and over again and you still complain after so many years! STUPID!
ReplyDeleteChange your vote and end UMNO BN's rule in Sabah!
On top of it: Sarawaks White Raja gets the gas from Sabah because he made the deal to get it! Sabah is not worth anything but a fixed deposit for UMNO BN! Sabah allways has and will be getting the breadcrumbs which no one else will have!!
You will get promises only for the next 10.000 years if you not change government in Sabah and this can only be done by educating the illegal MyCard holders and make it clear to them - if Malaysia gets bankrupt they are in the wrong boat and loose out.
We have to make it clear to them that they can stay and become real Sabahans if they vote for PKR! and SAPP has to make a stand what they want to do with those ppl. that they have a future in Sabah!
Complaining does not help at all - take your country back and out of the federation and build an Borneo Alliance for a better future for everyone.
We do not need to become more Islamic - we KNOW better than West-Malaysia how to live in harmony with all races and religions!!!
The only problem here is that UMNO is having all the information kept secretly on who are who (the illegal immigrants who got project IC)
ReplyDeleteMutalib has spoken out about the projek IC but was not challenged by the federal government because they knew it is true.
By challenging in court, truth will come out cracking open a whole can of worms of which UMNO does not want..so that's why they just kept their silence and time will defeat this issue.
why must stop vote BN..we must still vote BN ok.
ReplyDeleteKimanis to bintulu gas siphoning is the good for sabah and sarawak and wht must stop the good thing for sabah sarawak. So support this..okey all friend..
Sabah needs to develop own oil and gas sector
ReplyDelete23rd July, 2010
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah should utilize the natural gas to be sourced from the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT) project in Kimanis to develop its own high revenue oil and gas industry, said Minister of Industrial Development Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah.
Tan said he had forwarded a proposal to Petronas to have some of the gas from the SOGT to be given to Sabah to attract investors to come in and tap the resource to set up their operations in the State.
“If gas is available, industry players will be coming in to set up their activities here. People who are using gas will come in and other players will come in too to provide the support facilities and services, people like the suppliers.
“This is what we are hoping to do and we will continue to generate interest in this field by telling investors and industry players what are the opportunities available here,” he told reporters after visiting Sabah’s first Asean Oil and Gas Expo (AGEX) at Sabah Trade Centre here yesterday.
The three-day event, which ends on Saturday, features a wide array of international exhibitors including those from Malaysia, Singapore, UK, US, China, Korea, Italy, Germany, Taiwan and Japan.
Tan stressed Sabah would not need to send all its gas to Bintulu provided it can develop industrial activities to utilize the highly priced natural resource.
Although the pipes were already being built to send gas to Bintulu as planned, he said the gas can be made available for Sabah so it can attract investors to come in.
“But we have to do something to allow the industry to be developed, otherwise that will be all we do, sending our gas to Bintulu and receiving royalty.
“It would be much better for us (to have our own oil and gas industry) than to just send the gas to Bintulu. That is why there is an urgency to have industrial activities started in Sabah to tap the gas from SOGT,” he said, noting that works to set up the Terminal in Kimanis were progressing well.
According to Tan, Petronas has been very supportive of Sabah’s effort to develop its own vibrant oil and gas industry and has agreed to find a workable solution to allow Sabah to keep some of its own gas.
“We want oil and gas to create economic activities in Sabah, in line with efforts to generate downstream activities and create high income community.
“It is not just the landing of gas in Sabah but also the planning of oil and gas activities in the State and this includes efforts to provide the infrastructure and human resources required,” said Tan.
He said Petronas was willing to assist Sabah in developing trained and skilled human resources for its oil and gas industry through various levels of training programmes.
He added the company was willing to invest further in Sabah’s human resources development and the CEO himself has asked him to discuss the matter with the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman.
On AGEX, he said the event was timely as it brought major names in oil and gas sector into Sabah where investment opportunities can be highlighted or even discovered.
Currently the biggest oil and gas exhibition in Borneo, the event is expected to receive at least 5,000 visitors and generate sales of up to RM100 million.
“The organizer is very brave as a project of this nature is never a small undertaking and it is very significant as Sabah needs to know and bring in the players in the industry.
The exhibitors here are well known brands in oil and gas, with most of them suppliers and partners of Petronas.
“We will continue to organize this kind of activity to create awareness on the opportunities available in oil and gas Sabah,” he said.

develop gas industry in sabah.
ReplyDeletestate govt should respond on this statement..
ReplyDeletePlease clarify which state government under whose leadership.
ReplyDeleteThere is a guarantee? Walk the talk mang..Walk the talk.
ReplyDeletewe should accept what is the best for our economic. i think govt know what is the best for Sabahan.
ReplyDeletekerajaan akan membuat yg terbaik untuk sabah.
ReplyDeleteIf Sabah was given the chance to develop the oil and gas, the this will not happen.
ReplyDeleteAsk the Federal government about this.
ReplyDeleteAt the moment, there is nothing we could have done about this. So need need for the heated debates, just shut up, wait and vote in the next GE.
ReplyDeletei hope to, gov try to find the best about the oil and gas, should we develop oil and gas or we just supply to sarawak. So thing it??
ReplyDeleteif we develop we can give the opportunities job to the sabahan. If just siphoning nothing sabahan got. so the decision is from government self.
ReplyDeleteIn the first place, the previous Berjaya government under Harris, after Tun Fuad was killed, made a very big mistake by signing off the petroleum rights to Petronas.
ReplyDeleteNow, we see how Petronas treated Sabah...we have to beg for our gas to be given back to Sabah.
We don't have any representative in Petronas.
Sabahans are not complaining enough to get what they deserve but instead felt contented with what they have.
Sabahans should think and act on what Sabahans right to deserve, and not being brushed aside, bullied and taken for granted.
We still dont have the capability to develop our own petroleum industry...we dont have the technology, the facility, the right people to do it....one way to see Sabah petroleum industry booming is from Petronas...
ReplyDeleteSabahans, scapegoats of the Malayans, taken for granted.
ReplyDeleteWe vote for change in the next GE
maybe after we have the sufficient man power, technology etc...Petronas will going to stop to send gases to Bintulu, phase by phase...but i remain hopeful & sceptical at the same time...but on the other side, this project will surely going to make Kimanis as one of the most recognize district in Sabah...apart from the job & economic opportunity offered from this project...just hope that Petronas not going to hired too much workforce from peninsular & opt to have much of the workforce from Sabah...

ReplyDeleteIf petronas or the fed govt is serious and sincere in their effort to help Sabah, the technology would have been transferred to Kimanis or anywhere else in Sabah to process gas for end power supply to power hungry Sabah. Why is it in Bintulu and not in Sabah?
ReplyDeleteSabah is left behind becoz of their Petronas and the fed agencies's greed for more profit at the expense of the local populace in Sabah, turned backwards in terms of infrastructures and energy.
Manpower is also not a problem and Sabah has a lot of unemployed youths who had to go elsewhere in KL and other countries to find jobs.
Petronas owe us an explanations!
