Questions on Blocks L & M not fully answered

Member of Parliament for Tawau, Datuk Chua Soon Bui, said the federal government did not give a satisfactory answer on why the 3 million acres of oil block L and M were ceded to Brunei.

The federal government evaded her real question by quoting 'national interests', fairness to neighbours, boundary sharing, socio-economic and cultural ties being the factors for ceding of the oil blocks.

The federal government added that Malaysia's action at the time was to neutralize the tense situation that arose as a result of the oil and gas exploration.

Chua questioned why since it was the issue on the oil and gas exploration rights that created the tense situation, why didn't Malaysia negotiate for joint exploration and extraction rights rather than having to give up the sovereignty rights on the 3 million acres of marine territory?

"In any eventuality, why didn't Malaysia refer the matter to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in resolving such an important issue of national interest?

"No other rational reasoning would be good enough for the people especially when the nation is so proud of the winning of the sovereignty rights of Pulau Ligitan and Pulau Sipadan on 17/12/2002 in ICJ as recorded in the Malaysia Maritime Realm Atlas.

  5. After Blok L & M, what next?

  6. The Malaysia government cannot even give a real explanation on why they ceded this maritime territory to Brunei becoz there is none.

And they cannot retract their agreement...it is a dilemma which they preferred to keep quiet then to say more.

  7. This issue really not a big deal. We should focus more on a bigger issue that Sabah is facing and think of a way to solve it.

  8. according to the inter. law, map and history is actually enough to explain these matter.. but the opposition was making it more complicated.. If there are people who still wants to claim the blocks, we have to prepare that Brunei will drop the joint venture agreement with Malaysia.

  15. Actually, the Feds know that they just simply answer this.

It is the decision the BN govt took to supposedly exchange for the claim over Limbang at the expense of these oil fields.

Harris, the veteran politician has also stated that these strategic maritime territories were ceded with vested interests of individuals.

  16. It is both saddening and dengerous when there are Sabahans who are not aware of the what the state is losing and a future so uncertain under the current situations yet they pretend to know a lot. They still refuse to acknowledge the many problems faced by the people in Sabah and treat the ceding of size of 3 miilions acres of oil field as samll matter. Are they numb or they have lost they conscience altogether?

  18. 1979: Malaysia publishes map of its territorial waters. Map denies Brunei of any territorial waters in the South China Sea beyond the depth of 100 fathoms (182m), leaving Brunei with just a narrow strip of territorial waters, and claims the entire area beyond 100 fathoms as belonging to it... in fact, Malaysia has acted brutally to take away the rights of Brunei when Brunei was still not attained independence..
1984: Brunei gains independence from Britain. It claims a 200 nautical mile exclusive economic zone which overlaps with the territorial waters claimed by Malaysia as shown in the 1979 map... that is why, international law be fair and give back the right to Brunei..actually, it's belong to Brunei, but Malaysia took the opportunity while Brunei has yet to achieve independence.
