Stop subsidising Umnoputras, cut wastage, remove inefficiencies and curb corruption

Kota Kinabalu, Thu, 3 June 2010: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Yong Teck Lee today said the government must seriously, urgently and sincerely eliminate subsidies to UMNO and BN leaders and remove wastages and inefficiencies in the government and curb corruption among its ranks before imposing cuts on subsidies on livelihood necessities that will affect the people.

"For Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jala, a successful corporate leader who had headed Shell Sarawak and then Malaysia Airlines, to warn of national bankruptcy in nine years' time means that the national malaise is worse than earlier known.

"But before the government forces its so-called subsidy rationalisation plan on ordinary people, it must first remove all subsidies for UMNO and its leaders at various levels.

"Subsidies such as the lucrative "do nothing" Approved Permits (APs) given to UMNO leaders to import vehicles cost the government much revenues. UMNO and BN government leaders travel all over the country on government expenses for their political activities.

"Blank shares in public listed companies issued to UMNO leaders and public work contracts worth billions of ringgit are much talked-about ways that UMNO divisional leaders are rewarded.

"As such, tax payers have been subsidizing the high flying, extravagant lives of some UMNO and BN leaders all over Malaysia...more

Rujuk:

  9. Come to benefit for the citizen we always compare with countries that has less resources. Why not compare with Kuwait. Kuwait citizen are well taken care. They need not have to pay taxes. We have a lot of resource but still trying to find way to remove subsidise. We have natural resources, oil, tin, rubber, palm oil etc.
Come to subsidise toll companies complaint they do not make profit. If they cannot make profit why they still want to hold on to their business? They should sell to others who are willing to take the offer.

  10. The majority of the Malaysian public irrespective of race detest corruption. If UMNO-led BN government cannot deal with this menace effectively, its future is doomed. To stem out the rampant corruption therefore take precedence over all other measures including the removal of the subsidies.

  15. Subsidies may not be the reason for bankruptcy, but other factors will eventually bring the country to it's doom.

  17. Pakatan Rakyat de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim said the coalition's MPs would demand when Parliament sits from tomorrow that the government stop subsidising the few who are rich in preference to the many who are poor.

Speaking at a dinner jointly organised by PAS Youth and PKR Youth in Batu Lanchang in Penang this evening, Anwar termed as “obscene the Umno-BN government's featherbedding of an elite group of businessmen”, a pattern he claimed had weakened the national economy.

“Independent power producers are subsidised, contracts are given to cronies and families of the well-connected, and now when the economy has been brought down, they want to cut subsidies for the poor,” he told a working class crowd gathered at the multi-purpose hall in Batu Lanchang.

“No way that we in Pakatan are going to allow this to happen. You want to cut subsidies, remove them from the protected rich before you do anything to subsidies meant to help the poor,” said Anwar.

  19. Do you realise there are big increase in number of BMW luxury cars in Sabah, particularly in KK? It is probably due to the subsidy projects by BN connections.

BN YBs shouting Malaysia won't go bankrupt, Jala Idris speak rubbish. "i m yet to get my subsidised BMW sports."
