As Manchester United fans awaited eagerly for the live telecast of their match against Bolton which will see whether their favourite team top the Premier League table on saturday evening, supporters of BN and the opposition brace themselves for the result of the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election results.
Final score, Pas won by a majority of 2,631 against BN-UMNO and an independent. Its was the second time that BN has suffered a setback since the March 8, 2008 general elections.
The first setback was when BN-UMNO lost to PKR in the Permatang Pauh seat. Now the appeal court decision on the Pensiangan election petition will determine whether BN will face a third by-election in as many months.
Should there be one, it would be a first time a BN component pary instead of UMNO being put to the test. So should it be BN-PBRS vs a national party and a local party?
Yes PBRS vs SAPP. Both local parties.
ReplyDeleteWhoever represents the Opposition to face PBRS candidate must able to win. All other considerations are secondary. DSAI of PKR representing PR won the PM by-election. So is YB Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut of PAS representing PR in yesterday's KT by-election.

I will say PBRS vs PKR. Why?
ReplyDelete1. The petition was lodged and financed by PKR. To rob them of their chance to contest will create bad blood.
2. SAPP didn't contest the seat but PKR wanted, to displace them again will create bad blood.
3. We need to know the strength of a national party (PKR) in Sabah and Sarawak having established its strength in Malaya. This we will use to gauge the support it has in Sabaha/Swak and then we will move from there. SAPP, PKR and DAP will sit down to share the spoils in Sabah and avoid competiting like Malaya PR parties did. So this is a taste for a formula beaing created. For example, PKR fielded Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim in Ijok (2007) and BN fielded an Indian. Note that Ijok is mainly Malay. The reason PKR did this was to prepare for the ground and see how will thier strategy work in 2008. So BN won but the strategu has shown many good things, among them the need to seperate seats and states into harcore Malay, hardcore Chinese and multiracial. Having deduced that, DAP was given hardcore Chinese areas, PAS was given hardcore Malay areas and PKR was given multiracial areas including Ijok and they won big and big. So such strategy is needed in Sabah and Swak, but we need to let PKR set the agenda for that and then we go from there and sit down and share the spoils and create news strategies ala Malaya.
4. Fielding a local party will be a disadvantage in a sense. Because BN will argue that a small party like SAPP has nonational strength and can't help Pensiangan and neither would it get funds for the constituency. While the same applies to PKR, PKT at least controls some states and is the largest opposition Party in the nation. Their profile is thus higher. Furthermore, fielding SAPP vs PBRS will not auger well for SAPP as the voters may reason that both SAPP and PBRS are locals but PBRS being part of the federal govt and state govt is in a better position to help them. But PKR can argue that it will take over the federal govt and it will help Pensiangan and Sabah as a whole. Furthermore, it needs to test its 20% oil royalties claim and see how Sabahans react to that. SAPP can't promise that but can support such a claim.
5. If it is SAPP vs PBRS, SAPP will get few campaigners from Malaya but if it is PKR vs PBRS, Malayans will descend on Sabah. It is influential bloggers who run the nation like no other will transmit Sabah's problems, poevrty, poor housing, drainage, oil looting, resources looting and Pensiangan poverty and educational failure. This will make Malayans know how poor Sabah is and will try to help us in toppling BN Sabah. Remember how PR/PKR bloggers have influenced Kuala Terengganu by-election and made the whole nation addicted to their work? We need that in Sabah and then we Sabahans can benefit from them and see how we can emulate them. They may even train some Sabahans and we take from there.
6. We need to see how PAS, DAP will help the PKR in Sabah and how that will help SAPP in the future and where SAPP can fit in that grouping.
Sekian, Pengundi Menanti.
The Kuala Terengganu PR-PAS victory was a coalition of support from PKR,PAS and DAP.No individual Party can claim full credit for this well deserved victory.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, the by-election has proven one thing, the voters have proven that UMNO-BN is now less relevant.Politics of yesteryear's and politics of fear has now taken a backseat in the national political landscape.UMNO-BN and it's leadership are in a total state of denial and recuperating it's wounds is now a fore-gone conclusion.
State Politics can never see progress without the full support of National politics. While the people are moved with the charisma and heroic stand of SAPP in their focus to voice the aspirations of Sabahans, let us not loose sight that the plight of the people of Pensiangan will be a national agenda. The UMNO-BN Aduns are well represented in Nabawan and Sook, yet the people are still suffering.
Naivety will lead us to continued hardship, but rest assured enrich these bandits who have raped and robbed the people.Pensiangan must be represented by PKR.The people cannot be represented by Independents in Parliament. We need a strong voice that will be heard, and Pakatan Rakyat's PKR is the supreme choice.
We need to eradicate, the naivety and misconception of MALAYAN PARTIES.We are Malaysians to our very last drop of blood.
An article appeared in the Sunday forum of the Daily Express on the 11th.Jan by Voice of Sabahan entitled"Only Sabahan can understand Sabahan Woes".I took the liberty to email to them and said, while I share similar sentiments, let us not loose our focus,as the CM downwards in Sabah are Sabahans, yet the people are still suffering.WHY?
Finally,as we patiently await the decision of the Federal Court, let us look at the picture with our eyes wide open and prepare PKR for a Pensiangan victory.
Oh yes, before I forget,a little bird whispered to me this morning that State Attorney General,Datuk Rodrick Fernandez tendered his resignation. Can anyone confirm and shed light to this little bird's whisper?
Cheers...
Persiangan is different.
ReplyDeleteSabah is famous for phantom voters and they will be deployed in a big scale should there be a Persiangan buy election. KT does not have the luxury to such a scale.
The colonial master will deploy massive financial resources and alcohol to make many many alcoholic too drunk to vote for the opposing party.
My guess is BN will win Persiangan.
I am a 3rd geneeration Chinese Sabahan,I only support PR candidate,I am not going to consider he /she is malay, chinese, dusun or indian.
ReplyDeleteBiar Solymone atau Sabahkita tanding bebas di Pensiangan supaya org murut purut mereka ni yg berlagak 'berpangaruh' sangat. he he he. Sabahkita cuba ikut solymone & tanding=hilang deposit.
ReplyDeleteHaiyaaa.. Jangan tamak.. palan palan kita kasi karaja ini BN. PKR have to discuss with Yong/SAPP first la. PKR (Sabah) and DAP have been so stupid in the previous GE that we lost many seats to BN.
ReplyDeleteThis time don't repeat the same mistake again la. Runding! Jangan tak runding. Najib would be laughing like hell kalau kita berebut.
Saya masih ragu ragu tentang SAPP.
ReplyDelete1) SAPP cuma mahukan Badawi undur diri.
Yong has gone to see his fortune teller. In the next general election, he can forsee the swing of the voters, especially the Chinese, to the opposition. Why must the chinese continue to support Musa Bin Aman?
ReplyDeleteFor me, it is SAPP's survival. And at the same time, Yong wants to be the champion, filling the slot left by Pairin. I don't think he has interest teaming with PR to rule Malaysia. His chance of ruling Sabah is bigger considering that he has a local based party.
So how deep is his committement to get Sabahans' rights? Do you think he cares enough? I hope so.
Jangan sekadar suka tanding saja.
ReplyDeleteAfter last general election, most of the Sabahans expect that PR will able to do more for Sabah.
ReplyDeleteWe do not know Why SAPP want to cross river by two boats.
Musang aman and his gang are the vacuum cleaner in sabah. He sweeped all the projects and only give peanut to the monkey like pbs, ldp, pbrs and upko. A so called huguan siou where is your tontolu?
ReplyDeleteDo you think KDM still got chance to become CM of Sabah after evil umno came in? Dream on lah!
Musang is the most corrupted cm in sabah. You can see all his cousin mostly pakistanese drive ninja king and mercedes in all the sabah towns.
What about the KDM, Rungus, Sungai, Bajau, Suluk, Chinese and other PURE SABAH?
Kurup failed the voters: PBS
ReplyDeleteKota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) cautioned Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) President Tan Sri Joseph Kurup against overconfidence in notching victory for the Barisan Nasional should a by-election be called for the Pensiangan Parliamentary seat.
"It seems he had forgotten that the constituency has never been won by PBRS in the real sense but was given free to it in the name of the BN spirit," said PBS Secretary-General Datuk Radin Malleh.
The Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister was responding to Kurup's contention that PBS President Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan had hurt the BN Pensiangan Parliamentary by-election machinery preparation when he said that the selection of candidate for the BN should not be automatic.
Radin said that in fact, Kurup was the one who did not know how to read the political situation and local sentiment in Pensiangan.
"The voters there want a candidate from the majority Murut community.
"They say that Kurup who had been the Assemblyman for Sook since 1985 until 2008 except for the period between 1999 and 2004 and even though having held the posts of a full Minister, Finance Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, the area remained lagging in terms of basic infrastructure and other development," claimed Radin.
"The voters can vouch for that," he added. Towards this end, he said Kurup should do some soul-searching for the sake of the people's future in Pensiangan as well as the fate of the BN.
"Hence, Kurup should put the interest of the people in Pensiangan and BN before anything else," he said.

Why must SAPP makes way for PKR?
ReplyDeletePKR is a national opposition party while SAPP is Sabah based. So the question is who is closer to the Sabah grassroot to work for the best interest of Sabah?
SAPP can provides the check and balance to PKR should PR form the federal gov't. So SAPP vs PKR, who is more relevant to Sabah?
PKR has to look after the interest of so manay states and the entire nation, while SAPP is 100% focus on Sabah.
If PKR takes on many seats in Sabah, where is the role for locally based political parties in the mainstream politics?
Please don't forget that even in the event that PR form the fed gov't, Sabah still have to BARGAIN and EARN back our rightful interest which were robbed from us by BN gov't for so many decades. If PKR rule Sabah by then, they would be wearing 2 hats at the same time.
So who do you best trust to get this job done?
Agreed, let's support SAPP in Pensiangan for Sabah Autonomy.

Do not look down on a small party, the size of the party does not depend on the number of seats or members it has but the support of the people for its ideology and struggles. A giant has been removed by the people of Sabah before by an unknown candidate.
As for PR being the largest opposition party in Malaya, Sabahan are cautious now on Malaya parties. It would not be able to take care of Sabah needs first as its survival depends on Malaya people. Naturally, it has to feed the Malayan first then Sabah/Sarawak. Where to get their resouces to cater for their needs ? Sabah and Sarawak. The same senario as now under BN/Umno will happen with PR, it will take Sabah's resouces for their Malaya supporters survival.
PKR can CLAIM that it will take care of Pensiangan and Sabah when it becomes federal government. Please take note that PKR will be getting Sabah resources and give back 20% only to Sabah. It's Sabah money in the first place, why do we have to beg Malayan again for funds ? Isn't it better for Sabah to set it right from the beginning that we want our 20% back and manage our own state. Don't beg anymore, please.
We do not want to beg Malayan anymore for what's rightly belongs to Sabah in the first place.

I think many people have the impression that SAPP being independent means SAPP isn't going to cooperate with PR / BN but opposing both of them. But my impression is SAPP being independent means SAPP would try to be Sabah government without fixed attachment with either PR / BN. For now, SAPP would support PR. but 2 -3 terms later , it could reallign itself with BN if the senario benefits Sabah. Thus it still has the support of national politics as they also need Sabah politicians to remain in power.????
Isn't SAPP a chinese party? I don't trust Yong Teck Lee at all although I believe his MPs and ADUN are sincere. Yong TL is exploiting the situation now. A brighter future if SAPP change its approach now. SAPP won the seats last in the last election because of BN flag and the chinese voters. How do you expect SAPP win in a non-chinese constituency? Personally I believe Yong is greedy and a big liar. But on the positive side, I like him voicing out our rights loud when other leaders prefer to have their mouth shut.
ReplyDeleteHave Anwar, Lim Kit Siang and Hadi ever brought up the matter of Sabah's plights in the national politics ?
ReplyDeleteIf I were Anwar, I also would consider my 11 states in Malaya over 1 state of Sabah.
Sabahan should not be naive anymore thinking that unlike BN/UMNO, PR would look after Sabah's plights.
Sabahan should stand tall by its own efforts and resources!

We do not need to see how PR will help SAPP in the future. It's just like PR saying, SAPP please wait first, if we have left over, then we will give you some. I think that's also how PR is going to treat Sabah state.
We, Sabahan have to work ourselves and not depend on Malaya people anymore. Don't dream anymore.
SAPP as a Sabah based party needs to be the power house to
deal with the Malaya based parties either PR or BN for Sabahan. If SAPP doesn't do so,the opportunity will be gone, as both PR and BN need Sabah/Sarawak supports NOW.
Next time , who cares anymore when they are already in power ?
Character assissination of political figures doesn't work anymore as proven by Pematang Pauh by-election. People are looking at the parties' struggles for the people and whether they would walk the talk.
ReplyDeleteLet us create a peaceful country. Let the people votes with their mind, and not by their heart....
ReplyDeletePR has to prepare direct fight with BN and SAPP in the coming general election. We have to work together with federal Government(BN or PR). we are allow to choose BN or PR,we know who will treat us better. PBS did shout to fight for Sabahans (almost the same as SAPP). So far I know some of the PBS supporters are waiting to shift to PR, but only few of them consider SAPP (please don't be angry).
ReplyDeleteWe know what is "Sabah for Sabahans",we also want "Malaysia for Sabahans".
Guys,
ReplyDeleteSorry for spilling cold water onto SAPP supporters. It all depends on political strength. SAPP only has 1300 members in Pensiangan. SAPP can't guarantee all members in Pensiangan woulkd vote for SAPP. Plus, Jeffrey (PKR) nearly won Sook in 2004 as well as the other PKR adun is pretty close in nabbing the other state seat.
SAPP joining the fray would either ended in 2 scenarios:
1) Joseph Kurup would win ( very slim majority)
or
2) SAPP lost deposit
It's really not to SAPP advantage actually. By the way, I am sure PKR would proceed with Pensiangan especially SAPP didn't join Pakatan Rakyat. SAPP are no match with PBS in the interior. With such action of SAPP going into Pensiangan, come next 13th GE, DAP would simply waste SAPP. That I guarantee.
Seriously, SAPP must consider their move carefully. As for PKR, they need to choose the right candidate.
iYes, I agreed both PBS and SAPP did shout to fight for Sabahan. However, the difference is PBS leaders do not walk the talk, only think of their own benefits. Whereas SAPP has shown Sabahan that they walk the talk when opportunity arises, they dared to come out of BN, they are willing to forgo their benefits.

You have conveniently missed out that Jeffrey lost in Mar 08. A lost is still a lost no matter how close.
Let SAPP decides whether it wants to contest in Pensiangan. It seems to me that PKR Sabah is so scared that SAPP is going to contest.
If SAPP is scared of losing deposit, then what's the point of pulling out of BN ? Might as well stay in BN comfortably with all the benefits.
I am not a member of any party (at least 35% voters same as me). I agree PBS leaders do not walk the talk after returning to BN. PBS did walk the talk before returning to BN, but how??
ReplyDeleteIn coffee shop, we talk about "How Datuk YTL threatened PBS,then BN and is going to threaten PR". We agree SAPP candidate also has the chance to win if under PR. I don't know you are happy or not,I have to tell you, most of us consider "two party system". We vote for PR or BN. "Multi-party system" is not in our mind.
Guys,
ReplyDeleteLets look at it objectively:
2004 GE
1) Pensiangan seat was a marginal constituency where it was won by PBRS with a majority 608
2) Sook was won with a 395 majority by PBRS.
2008 GE, Both seats are won by PBRS with a rather low majority. Less than 2000 votes
Pakatan Rakyat has been riding high with 2 consecutive wins. Plus Ngemah and Bota state seats defection, sorry to say, PKR has a higher chance of winning instead of SAPP
That leaves us to 2 ultimate outcome, Should SAPP ever come into the picture.
SAPP would either lose deposit or PBRS would win
What's 1320 SAPP members? PBS won 1994 state election on its own. What happens after that? Are you so sure that SAPP members would run over to PKR if YTL decided to pursue its own journey. With DAP eyeing on SAPP seats, seriously, I say SAPP should refrain this time.

ReplyDeletewhat is happening ?????????????????????????????????????
Life is about choice. Its about time for the people to make their choice. To enable the people to have more choices SAPP should contest Pensiangan.
ReplyDeleteIf SAPP or PKR or even BN wins, then its the choice of the people.
For me PKR is no different from BN-UMNO. Its another Peninsular based party. Decision would be make in KL by KL.
SAPP just go ahead do it.
vWhich ever party is going to win in Pensiangan, it's not going to change the government of Sabah. WHy not let the people of Pensiangan decide which party they want their representative comes from ?

I think it's better for YTL to threaten PBS and BN which was/are no longer doing the correct things than becoming a "Yes Sir" party which was/is not bringing any goods to Sabah.
Bravo SAPP,not many people/parties can do that nowadays.
As for your confidence that SAPP could only win IF under PR, I am really dumbfounded. SAPP won all the seats it contested in the last election, whereas PR lost all the seats except for 1 MP and 1 Adun by DAP.

If you are a SAbahan with the mentality of thinking only Malayans can do wonder, you will continue to beg and be threaten by Malayan. I for one do not want that to happen, I am confident that Sabahan is able to stand tall among all the Malaysians.
Sabah has all the natural & human resources and yet being robbed by Malayans, and now you want us to change the master in different clothes/setting. Sabahan must be the master of our own state.

I also support 2 party system but SAPP being independent is not going to make it into Multi-party system. PR has PKR, DAP and PAS. BN has UMNO, MCA, MIC, PBS, UPKO etc. SAPP being independent will support either PR or BN. That means there will still be 2 party system. Many people have the perception that SAPP being independent means SAPP will be against both PR and BN.
To those ball lickers of PBS and PBRS supporters, you guys brought SHAME to Sabah and your leaders all are MUTE when their boss umno say so. Where are all the leaders dignity and pride who always claim that they are fighting for their race especially KDM?
ReplyDeleteThe illegal muslim immigrants estimated about 800,000 already became sabahan and more to come compared to the current KDM population in Sabah only 600,000+. What will going to happen in the 10-20 years to come?
Your PBS and PBRS leaders can talk and claim that they fight for this and that until your cow come home but the situation in Sabah still the same. The KDM still living in poverty and your leaders easily being manipulated by the evil umno. period.
What KDM in Sabah waiting for? Walk the talk and join SAPP to fight for your future instead of just end up like coffee shop talk only for the past donkey years.
How often need Sabahans to get cheated before they wake up and vote UMNO BN out of the state? Special allocation have not been paid, oil royalties are on a very low level. Sabahans live in poverty since they joint Malaya! Now again, no money to Sabah, only allocatet to Sabah what means in clear word..... PutraJaya will hold it ICU and not ONE project will be done. Another story told without substance! Vote for the opposition since you all know by now, the UMNO BN government do care only for your votes not for your future. Do not forget: Sabah and Sarawak are FIXED DEPOSITS for Umno! Ppl start thinking before Sabah goes down completely! Confince each and every MyCard Holder, even if you knoe it is a fake one, to vote for CHANGE. Make it clear to them that they will not lose there MyCard if they vote for the opposition!

SAPP for Pensiangan? A Big No No No!
NO NO NO.
I have seen enough of him as a CM. Corrupted like the rest (esp UMNO leaders). If he has repented, then its good but he needs to show more.
Jangan jadi staring TV saja bah SAPP.
