Government to appeal against court decision on RPK

Syed Hamid said: “If we find a threat, we will use it. (But) we must be just and fair. We don’t want to victimise anyone.”

To be just, we use the court of justice. To be fair, we also use the court of justice. Was Teresa Kok not victimised? Was the Sin Chiew reporter not victimised? ISA now, is being used as a political tool rather than for security e.g. against terrorists, fanatical religious groups.

Previously it was used against the communists, but now against the columnists...more...

  1. Another proof of the arrogant attitude of the BN government......

All YB should demand the resignation of Syed Hamid and the PM should sack him!!

  4. Syed Hamid IS a real threat to our country coz he just made use of the ISA at his whims and fancy, victimising an MP, a columnist and a blogger.

ISA is used against terrorists or people who threaten the SECURITY of our nation.

Is RPK a threat as he is only a blogger. What can a blogger do....to dethrone BN govt ??? Ha ha ha, we Malaysians have high intelligence whether to believe or not what RPK writes in his blogsite !!

Maybe Syed Hamid should be ISAed for a few years to understand what is the word 'DEMOCRACY' after 50 YEARS of Independence have passed us by !!

  5. Raja Petra was released by the High Court on Friday after it ruled that the government had acted outside its powers by ordering Raja Petra to serve two years in detention without trial.
    ---------------------------

This is wonderful news indeed. Congratulations to RPK on his release. Better late than never. I hope he is in good health and spirit.

I've always said that if there is any valid reasons to arrest him for anything, then he should have been arrested under the relevant laws. Since he is clearly not a terrorist about to blows up anything to cause death and destruction, there is no valid reason to arrest him under the ISA. If the UMNO-BN government use ISA to suppress political opponents, then they are guilty of misuse and abuse of power.

I'm heartened that the Malaysian court has the courage and honesty to defy the arrogant and corrupt UMNO-BN government and acted to uphold justice. Maybe there is hope for Malaysia yet.

Again, congratulations to RPK for regaining his freedom. And congratulations to the Malaysian court system for its courage and honesty and Malaysia as a whole for its renewed hope for justice and better days ahead. With the election of Obama and the affirmation of democracy in the US, the rise of China, and the overthrow of UMNO-BN, maybe a new dawn will finally come to SE Asia and Malaysia.

  6. We should at this time remember all those other prisoners who are wrongly imprisoned in the ISA jails. The Hindraf, and hundreds of other political prisoners who got arrested because UMNO-BN found them politically inconvenient. Democracy will only work if the people are actively demanding those in power do the bidding of the people. Remember, the people are the true masters of the government. The people as the master of the government must exercise their power to clease the government of the corrupt and the incompetent so that freedom, equality, and justice will prevail for the benefit of all.

  8. http://politics101malaysia.blogsome.com/2008/11/10/umno-a-lost-cause-zaid/

Quote from an article at the above link:

According to Zaid, Umno is mired in a philosophy of autocracy or guidance type leadership, which makes the voice of the grassroots more distant and often unheard.
This is the problem of not only UMNO but all dictatorial political systems everywhere in the world.
    =====================

When the political philosophy is one of top down control as in a patriarchal system - monarchy, theocracy, communism, etc., the wishes of the people are deliberately discouraged and suppressed. The top leaders want to lead forever and don’t want the grassroot to challenge their leadership. Therefore, changes at the top must come from outside. Only when the party is toppled from power will the grassroot be able to make their voices heard.

Also the system created by UMNO has been very successful in creating an environment of racial hatred and suspicion from the Malays toward the Chinese. Essentially, the UMNO leaders told the Malays that the Chinese are out to get them and the Malays need UMNO to protect them from the evil Chinese. Therefore, the grassroot of the Malays to a large extent still see the Chinese as enemies to be suppressed and kept in their respectful place and will not tolerate any talk of equality between the Chinese and the Malays. So the past success of UMNO has now come back to haunt them. UMNO is now trapped by a top leader who will not listen to the grassroot. And the grassroot is trapped in a mentality of race suspicion and superiority because they have grown up and brainwashed into believing in the righteousness of it and also many believe that is the directive from the top leaders of UMNO and mostly don’t dare to challenge it out of cultural respect for their leaders. So UMNO is frozen at the top and the bottom and nothing can change it from within either from the top or from the bottom.

The solution is for Malays outside of UMNO to form opposition parties to teach the virtues and the necessities of equality and justice and convince the grassroot Malays to join the opposition parties to replace the UMNO bigotry. Then UMNO will ultimately disappear while Malay opposition parties become the mainstream Malay parties and Malaysia as a nation can be free to move on to better days with genuine racial harmony and revitalized prosperity.

It is not Malaysian law that has gone wrong. It is UMNO laws that have gone wrong. Or rather the wrongful UMNO misuse and abuse of the Malaysian laws that is heinous. UMNO top leaders should be arrested and charged for unlawful detention and gross violantion of human rights.

Of course, ISA laws are out of date and not totally righteous to begin with. Therefore, ISA should be abolished and repealed and replaced with an updated set of laws to combat terrorism that pays respect to human rights. The new laws should also include punishment for those who abuse the anti-terrorism laws to prevent abuse of power.

Any tin pot dictator can abuse the law. The fact that UMNO has been arresting anyone they liked is a sure sign of abuse of power and its unfitness to rule over Malaysia. All the more reason to topple UMNO-BN.

Furthermore, UMNO's heinous abuse of power is no longer able to terrorize righteous Malaysians protesting for human rights. The court of Malaysia is now asserting itself to overrule UMNO's abuse of power. A case in point is the denial of UMNO's request to transfer Anwar's case to higher court. Another case in point is the release of Raja Petra from ISA jail.

As justice and rationality return to Malaysia, UMNO's insane reign of terror through the abuse of power to arrest anyone is nearing its end. Now all righteous Malaysians will rise up and strike down the loathsome abuser of power once and for all. Even righteous Malays are now turning to righteous leaders such as Zaid to lead them into a more equal and racially inclusive era that will engender true interracial harmony and lay the groundwork for rapid economic advancement that will benefit all.

Loathsome UMNO can keep arresting righteous people but the court will keep releasing them. Any day now some righteous people will bring a suit against UMNO for abuse of power and wrongful arrest and the court will put all the UMNO top dogs in jail for a long, long time. And jokersama can visit them in jail bringing them news of the toppling of UMNO and the institution of a new government led by righteous leaders such as Anwar and Zaid and Raja Petra.

Anybody with an ounce of brain and a pair of eyes can see UMNO has been losing for the last 8 months. They tried to put Anwar in jail, but Anwar is still walking free. In fact, Anwar is not in jail but is in parliament giving UMNO hell. So who is the loser, DUDE?

UMNO put RPK in jail, but the court has released him and instead rebuked UMNO for abusing ISA. So who is the loser, DUDE?

And Badawi is on the way out thus fulfilling the call of Yong and SAPP to get rid of him. So who is the loser, DUDE?

And UMNO is clearly falling apart with the top dogs scrambling for top posts which will surely blow that party apart. So who is the loser, DUDE?

Andbody can see it is UMNO who is the losers and will continue to lose.

UMNO-BN already lost 5 states. Don't you know how to count? And the next election will see even more people voting for PR. All the Chinese and Indians will vote for PR and that'll be the end for UMNO-BN. And all the Chinese and KDM will vote for SAPP or DAP and that'll be the end for UMNO in Sabah. So enjoy yourself while you can because your end is drawing near.

An idiot fell out off a 10 story building. He was heard to keep saying "so far so good" as he fell to the ground until he hit the sidewalk. In case jokermoron doesn't know the point of this example, it is that the important thing is not how things are now but what is going to happen.

To put it in another way, the trend is the loss of power by UMNO. After March 8 election, UMNO-BN lost 5 states plus the KL Fed. Territory. Sabah has lost only 1 seat to DAP. But now SAPP has left BN. And it is likely that UPKO will also leave. And the public sentiment of the Sabahan people are increasingly against UMNO-BN. So all these indicate a changing trend toward loss of power for UMNO-BN.

In the end, idiots can only see what is in front of them. A truly wise man can not only see the present but the changing conditions and project the most probable condition of the future. For example, an idiot sees the sun shining and go out without an umbrella. But a wise man can see both the sun shining over his head and the rain cloud on the horizon coming closer. So the idiot goes out without an umbrella and gets wet, catch pneumonia and die while the wise man goes out with an umbrella and stays dry and live happily on.
