DNA bill tabled, and with haste

At the same time the bill was being tabled, the Bar Council warned that if the bill is passed, the country would turn into a ‘full fledged police state’.

Bar Council human rights committee president Edmund Bon told a press conference at the Parliament lobby that the bill appears to have been ‘rushed through’ for debate.

Bon alongside three other Bar Council members were at Parliament to brief opposition MPs on the grave repercussions should the DNA bill be passed. more...Do You think it is politically motivated?

  1. Very obviously the BN is aimed at the newly elected Permatang Pauh MP, DSAI. Don't they have more urgent things to do for the ordinary folks of Malaysia? Doldrums of the economy, unemployment, horrible state of the public tranport systems, deeprooted corruption, etc? With his 82 PR colleagues DSAI should have no problem to put up a lively debate in Parliament before the bill is passed.

  4. SAPP,Datuk Seri Yong and many are not fool like what you described!
    Voices and opinion from these leaders though not from UMNO but with BN couldn't all be mistake.
    Respect non-racist sabahan as well as malaysian's right.

  5. During Tun Mahathir time atleast we have a vision to look forward to.. Vision 2020 but now what are we looking forward to?? more increase fuel price?, more increase food price? WHAT IS OUR VISION?.For a oil net export country the economy get better when price of fuel is increse. So why is the rakyat suffering. Maybe like PM say we can look forward to plant our own vege and eat less and going back to the 60s when we can only eat chicken during festival.
    BE or follow someone who has a vision for the future of our country. Do it for the future of children..

  6. These Umno crooks are too busy to look into more urgent matters like improving our living, curbing the high cost of increased food items and essentials.

    While instead, recent actions (Sodomy, ACA, DNA...what's next) we seen before and after the Permatang Pauh by-election were all focussed or zeroed in one target ie. Anwar.

  8. "Rahsia Besar" yang menjerut leher

    Zam mungkin tidak menjangkakan bahawa Ust Taib akan mengadakan sidang media yang mendedahkan apa isi "Rahsia Besar",yang sebenarnya bukan lagi menjadi rahsia kepada sesetengah orang.Mungkin sebelum ini orang ramai menjangkakan bahawa berita-berita angin yang tersebar yang melibatkan pimpinan negara sebagai palsu kerana tiada sumber atau individu yang mendedahkannya untuk maklumat awam.Bila Zam mencabar Ust Taib supaya mendedahkan isipati "rahsia besar" yang selama ini disimpan olehnya,seolah-olah mengesahkan secara jelas isu yang pernah heboh dulu di laman-laman web dan pernah satu dua isu yang disiarkan secara sepintas lalu di dada akhbar yang mempunyai agenda tertentu semasa Zam menjadi ketua pengarangnya dulu untuk menjatuhkan tokoh tertentu di dalam UMNO seperti Mat Taib , Rahim Tambi Chik dan Abu Hassan.

    Di antara "Rahsia Besar" yang merupakan perkara yang pernah dirujuk kepada YB USTAZ HAJI.TAIB AZAMUDDEN BIN MD. TAIB semasa beliau memegang jawatan Imam Besar Masjid Negera ( Ust Taib hanya memberikan pembayang tanpa menyebut nama individu terbabit)Disini penulis memasukkan nama mereka-mereka terbabit supaya kita jelas siapakan dia yang termasuk dalam senarai " Rahsia Besar " itu:

    1.Masalah Zainuddin Maidin (ZAM) yang mengadakan hubungan sulit dengan seorang gadis semasa isterinya terbaring sakit dan hampir lumpuh;

    2.Masalah kesahihan kahwin lari yang dilakukan oleh Mohammad Mohd Taib membabitkan seorang janda di Selatan Thai;

    3.Masalah tangkapan khalwat Najib Tun Razak dengan Ziana Zain di bilek hotel di Port Dickson (Pegawai penguatkuasa terbabit ditukarkan serta meta);

    4.Masalah Ruhaini Ahmad bermain kayu tiga dengan isteri orang dan akhirnya menyebabkan perceraian wanita tersebut;

    5. Masalah Rahim Tambi Chik mempunyai hubungan dengan gadis bawah umur yang bernama Hayati( sehinggakan menyebabkan Lin Guan Eng merengkok dalam penjara akibat memperjuangkan kepentingan gadis ini)

    6. Masalah Shahidan Kassim mengadakan hubungan sulit dengan seorang gadis yang akhirnya gadis tersebut mengandung dan melahirkan anak hasil hubungan itu;

    7. Masalah Shahidan Kassim yang menyimpan dan mengadakan hubungan sulit dengan seorang pelajar bawah umur disebuah perumahan mewah ( ditempat Shahidan melakukan perkara sumbang inilah anak Shahidan mati bila terjatuh dari pangsapuri tahun lepas) di Kuala Lumpur;

    8. Masalah Ismail Ibrahim, Pengerusi Majlis Fatwa Kebangsaan, yang mengadakan hubungan sulit tanpa nikah dengan seorang wanita, dan kemudiannya menggunakan kedudukannya untuk menganiaya wanita tersebut;

    9. Masalah Abu Hassan Omar didakwa mengadakan hubungan sulit dengan iparnya dan melahirkan anak ( anak itu dibinkan dgn nama Abu Hassan Tan Abdullah) dari hubungan tersebut;

    10.Masalah Ruhaini Ahmad dan isterinya bersabit daripada pemimpin tersebut mempunyai hubungan dengan wanita lain dan permasaalahan tuntutan perceraian, tuntutan harta sepencarian, nafkah dan lain-lain;

    11.Masalah Ketua Bahagian UMNO Bandar Tun Razak ( Noh Omar pernah mendakwa memonton CD yang dirakan ini)yang didakwa oleh isterinya memaksa beliau (isterinya) melakukan hubungan seks diluar tabi'i dan berakhir dengan penceraian;

    Sepatutnya kita ucapkan berbanyak terima kasih kepada Zainuddin Maidin yang memberikan credit point yang cukup baik kepada pihak pembangkang disaat kita akan menghadapi pilihanraya yang dijangkakan seawal tahun 2003.Tapi orang Munafik yang bersifat seperti anjing tidak layak

    mendapat ucapan terima kasih.Kerana bila dia lepas dari tersepit dia akan kembali menggigit tangan orang yang melepaskannya dulu.Itulah sifat anjing Zainuddin maidin yang dipelihara oleh Dr Mahathir Mohamad,hanya tahu menyalak demi seketul tulang bangkai yang busuk.

  10. Sabah MPs reject loyalty pledge

    (The Star) - Many of the 24 Sabah Barisan Nasional MPs are rejecting a move to get them to sign a loyalty pledge to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

    State Barisan Backbenchers Club chairman Datuk Anifah Aman said the move proposed by Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Shafie Apdal was an insult to the Sabah MPs. He added that the pledge should instead be signed by all Barisan MPs nationwide.

    He said various Sabah MPs including himself had repeatedly voiced their loyalty to the Barisan leadership and pledged that they had no intention of crossing over to join the opposition.

    "We did this during the Permatang Pauh campaign, on television and again in Kota Kinabalu. Is the frequency of denial equivalent to our loyalty?" said Anifah, the Kimanis MP and Kimanis Umno chief.

    He said many Sabah Barisan backbenchers had called him asking about the pledge and some had said they felt that they were being treated like "cattle."

    Anifah questioned Shafie's real intentions for proposing the loyalty pledge and wondered whether it was aimed at scoring "political points" in his bid for the Umno vice-president's post in the party polls.

    On Thursday, Shafie had said that Sabah and Sarawak MPs would be submitting a pledge declaring their loyalty to the Prime Minister by Friday or Saturday. He had said the MPs from both states would never quit the coalition despite the various rumours about them.

    Kalabakan MP Datuk Abdul Ghapur Salleh said the loyalty pledge seemed to infer that Sabah MPs could not be trusted.

    Saying he would not be signing any such pledge, Ghapur, the Kalabakan Umno chief, said the Sabah MPs had been vocal about issues affecting the state as they felt that these problems had to be resolved.

    "But this should never be misconstrued as us being disloyal to the leadership," he added.

    Karambunai MP Datuk Eric Majimbun, the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) deputy president, said neither he nor fellow SAPP MP Datuk Dr Chua Soon Bui of Tawau would be signing such a pledge.

    "What is the point of such a pledge? This so-called pledge doesn't make sense," he said.

  11. Very good to have "Convention on Sabah Issues" but then rather call "Convention Of National Administration over Sabah Issues" or
    in bahasa "Pemerentah Nasional Demi Isu-Isu Di Sabah", betulkah?

    SAPP boleh as the turn out is very good first time to open for everyone irrespective of political background or parties.

    It is too sad not to see other Sabah MP except 3 MP-YB Eric, Dr.Chua and Dr.Ku of DAP. Sabahan regret for the rest of MP for not really show more concern about Sabah issues than their political agenda. Many matters such like PTI, Land and Currently economics about development were voiced and touched by dedicated Speakers.

    Except in opinion while dealing with PTI and illegal obtaining "mycard" though is the responsibility of Federal but abuse
    by simply irresponsible Federal on Sabah land could not be tolerated!
    Ask yourself can anyone let your doorman or security unchecked to hand out the door key to thief or unknown stranger such as simply approving mycard? So Tan Sri never always think is "up to Federal" as will make those guys feeling very superior to sabahan instead. Get our MP who are willing to remark about their inefficient or mistake on mycard or any issue!

    Hope SAPP will have more convention as is a good stage for uniting all sabahan. Forget about those who have been invited but have no concern for Sabah issues at all.

    For changing the constitution, they need 2/3 majority.

  14. 'DNA bill a double-edged sword'

    PKR supremo leads walkout in protest
    Timo FP: Home minister Syed Hamid Albar can be likened to the proverbial toad that is willing to croak from any pond that sustains him. Not too long ago he was actually singing for the Mahathirian camp and now for Abdullah. But there's just one problem. Its just a croak in the night and nobody's listening.
    I bet if Anwar took over tomorrow, he'd be the first to offer his services without an iota of shame. His uncanny ability to switch allegiance at the drop of a hat appears to be his only forte that continues to amaze political-watchers.
    Not actually the ‘sharpest tool in the shed’ could have been what prompted Abdullah to switch him to the Home Ministry from Foreign. His sloth-like movements coupled with his incomprehensible, outlandish statements saw Singaporean Foreign Ministry officials running rings around him which eventually ended in the loss of Pulau Batu Puteh.
    Poor Abdullah. His decision-making-edge appears to have been dimmed by the ‘galaxy of stars’ that orbit him and the sad part is he appears to be totally-helpless in putting them out of orbit.
    Vidya Young: Are Barisan’s MPs aware of what they are asking for by road-rolling the DNA bill through Parliament? Don’t be so smug thinking that you can use this to get Anwar. Be forewarned that the Act could turn out to be a double-edged sword. This same DNA Act could be used to solve the mystery of Altantuya's murder.
    Mca74justice: Permatang Pauh shows that it is not about Anwar anymore. It is about realising that we as a nation are standing on the cusp of a new identity as united Malaysians. It is about realising that we, the citizens of Malaysia, want justice to be done. It is about realising that the democratic institutions, and the people we elected into Parliament, do not abuse the powers entrenched in the system to victimise a single person.
    It is about realising that if the DNA bill gets passed in its present form, it is not just Anwar’s human rights that will be trampled upon, but all ours as well, by the supposedly democratic institutions that were set up to protect us! And this includes the human rights of any Umno, MCA and MIC MPs or senators who run afoul of the elitist few that hold the power to yield the DNA sword!
    Just think, how incredible it is that the BN government is so fearful of one man that they are willing to create a new law in an effort to snare him, after failing to get him to submit his DNA! Syed Hamid’s denial of this fact despite it being so painfully obvious, once again makes the BN government the laughing stock of the international community, lurching Malaysia towards Mugabe-style (mis)leadership!
    I am utterly disgusted by BN.
    Fighter: I wonder why Syed Hamid is going all out against Anwar this time around. If I remember correctly, he was not that vocal in 1998. To the extent that we tought he was above partaking in dirty politics.
    Perhaps there is too much at stake to for Syed Hamid if Anwar takes over. Anwar should start checking up on Syed Hamid to see if he has any skeletons in his closet. So far, Anwar has been at the receiving end of accusations and hurtful remarks. Things should change now as you are an MP elected the rakyat.
     Flyerfly777: Syed Hamid said that the Opposition staged the walkout because it could not garner adequate support should bloc voting be called to decide on the passing of the bill. He further commented that Anwar tried to disunite BN with all sorts of actions but BN ‘showed unity’. What unity? Unity to pass a flawed bill?
    I wish our Yang Berhormat MPs from BN could find the strength to do the right thing, not only for the rakyat, but also for themselves. To the BN MPs who chose to vote for a passing of the DNA bill despite fully knowing its flaws, remember, what goes around comes around. You may be the victim of the flawed bill one day.
    Goh Kor Huan: Why is the government rushing to push through the DNA bill, which has such wide implications? Why is Syed Hamid so reluctant to refer the bill to a Select Committee to obtain wider feedback from relevant bodies like the Bar Council and citizen rights groups or review how other, more advance countries with such bills protect the rights of their citizens?
    Is the government working for the rakyat or are they working for themselves? Has Syed Hamid forgotten Pah Lak’s call to "come work with me"? Has he forgotten that the Malaysian citizens are the masters and the government is the servant?
    If this government continues with its arrogance and insensitivity to the protection of its citizen's rights, then it is going to face more disappointment, courtesy of the Malaysian people. Looks like this government is incapable of change.
    Nantha Kumar: The BN government is very determined to pass the DNA bill to further humiliate Anwar on the sodomy charges. Are efforts underway to plant the new DNA samples on a mattress like happened 10 years ago? Very soon, we will be seeing a mattress being hauled into court and again the international community will laugh at Malaysian justice.
    The days are numbered for BN and its cronies. Change is inevitable and the rakyat will put a stop to all these dirty political tactics. Long Live Pakatan Rakyat. The people are with you all the way to Putrajaya. Make it happen for the sake of all Malaysians.
    Sang Kancil: The DNA bill has been the talk of the town. Why was the Home Minister in such a hurry to table the bill? Will we be wrong to think that it was safeguard his position and put Anwar in jail?All we can do now is watch and see if the bill is passed after the third reading in December.
    This bill is really a national threat. If we allow it to be passed in Parliament come December, we are actually digging our own graves. The only way to stop this arm-twisting modus operandi of the Umno-BN government is to pray hard that Anwar comes to power soon.
