Muhyddin: We should be grateful for not dying of starvation

We Malaysians should be grateful that we are not dying of starvation, yet!

DPM Tan Sri Muhyddin Yassin (photo) says Malaysians, the poor Sabahans in particular should not be complaining about their poor condition as no one has died of starvation yet, as compared to the people in China and India.

He also said the nation will go bankrupt if it fulfils the demands of all the people.

He also made a staggering revelation that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government has been unable to do much for the landless and hardcore poor in the country mainly due to incompetence of its leaders.

He took a swipe at ruling party political leaders for not doing their jobs and not articulating the problems they faced.

Take the World Bank's report as an impetus for improvement

KOTA KINABALU, November 18, 2010: The State Government should take the recent World Bank's report that Sabah is still the poorest state in Malaysia as a constructive criticism and an impetus to double its efforts in poverty eradication, instead of being hostile and to swing into a 'total denial' state, said Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) supreme council, Chong Pit Fah.
He asserted that both the Federal and the State governments should acknowledge that there is still much to be done to address the high poverty rate in Sabah, and to quickly identify the problems hindering poverty eradication in Sabah.

Why skilled M'sians don't come home?

How can we expect some one like Maximus to oversee, provide or even improve the 'brain gain' programme to increase the number of researchers, scientists and engineers in the country when he can't even look after his own backyard, which is known to have the highest number of hardcore poor, unemployment, dropout from secondary schools, single mothers, Aids victims among young girls (most of who had once worked in the nigh spots in West Malaysia or, as part time sex workers in Kota Kinabalu).

Aid For Hardcore Poor Not A Privilege

In Bernama report dated 30 October 2008, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said various aid extended to heads of hardcore poor households via the Peoples Welfare Development Scheme (SPKR) should not be viewed as a privilege.

He said the recipients should instead work hard and not only depend on state assistance all the time."We need to change attitude and not depend too much on the government for help,"

Pairin said in his speech when officiating the Additional Balanced Food Programme (PTMS) organised by the Tambunan branch of the Community Development Department (Kemas) at the Pisompuruan Square.

Is it not the government responsibility to look after the hardcore poor? Are not more programs and incentives be extend to help alleviate the living conditions of the hardcore poor?
