KOTA KINABALU, December 7, 2013: The Progressive Education Foundation (PEF) yesterday presented cheques to Seri Mengasih and the Good Shepherd Rural Community Development at its chairman's office in Wisma Sabah.
Council member Melanie Chia, who was representing the chairman of the foundation's board of trustee and management council, Tan Sri Thomas Jayasuriya, said the amount presented to the Sekolah Seri Mengasih was RM5.200; whine the Good Shepherd Rural Community received RM5,000.
"Since the incorporation of PEF, the total sponsorship to Sekolah Seri Mengasih to date amounts to RM221.800," she said.
Chia added that the sponsorship for Sekolah Seri Mengasih over the years was towards the Advance Certificate Course in Connunity Services (Disability) for Special Education Teachers conducted by the NewZealand Christchurch College of Education in Kota Kinabalu; TEACH ME 10th Anniversary Conference on "Integration is a way of life" held in Singapore; International Conference on "Learning and the Brain" co-organised by the Centre with nine other government and corporate bodies in Kota Kinabalu; the two weeks training cum exposure trip to Kololo Centre (specialised Autism Training Centre) in Tokyo, Japan: International Conference on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities 2011 and other workshops on autistic children for teachers.
“The long term support by PEF to Sekolah Seri Mengasih confirms the objective of the PEF to promote and develop education in all aspects. It was with this in view that a new sponsorship is to be given to Good Shepherd Rural Community Development this year to support their outreach programmes to the rural community and youth programmes in Sabah," he said.
Present to receive the cheques were Beatrice Wong representing the Good Shepherd Rural Community and Monica Chua, from Sekolah Seri Mengasih.
Also present at the event was Datuk Seri Tengku Zainal Adlin, Sabah Tourism Board chairman cum council member of PEF.
